a rope installation on Oakwilde Ranch
150' long

The Cloud and the Source is an interaction with the landscape at the ranch. I chose the site because it is teeming with potential energy that is suitable for my ideas and materials. I primarily use rope as an expression of network and connectivity. I also like the linear qualities of rope as a generator of form, while simultaneously having almost no form apart from the tensions that act on it.

The title is a reference to the cloud that increasingly connects us. The cloud itself alludes to the nature of our composition as beings. I like thinking of this cloud as an actual landscape we can walk through and experience, examining its structure and testing its strength. One can become lost in the wonder and possibilities of this cloud, and it is reassuring to remember the anchor that gives the cloud its form.
